Corporate Overview

The Realty Advisory, Inc. (TRA) provides commercial real estate development, consulting and brokerage services, and tax efficient disposition of highly appreciated real property across southeastern New England.

The company is based on Cape Cod and was founded in 1999 to focus on developing an environment where a high level of service and deep domain knowledge provides results for clients.

Instead of following a more traditional commercial model of principals, senior agents, and many junior agents, TRA decided to develop a boutique model where clients have the full focus of experienced professionals and develop long-term professional relationships.

Today the company is known for its ability to work collaboratively with clients and to deliver projects with a high level of satisfaction in both outcome and process.

Focus

TRA focuses on commercial brokerage, commercial develoment, real estate consultation, and real estate investment including 1031 exchanges and tenancy in common (TIC) purchases. It also provides residential buyer representation. Principal John Shields is both a licensed real estate broker and licensed securities broker.

People

The Realty Advisory is owned and operated by John T. Shields. John began his career in real estate in 1982 as residential broker in Centerville, MA. After four successful years, he formed Shields, Chasson & Assocs. and created one of the premiere Mid-Cape brokerages. In the early 1990s, his firm merged with Realty Executives in Hyannis. During this time John's reputation as one of the most successful commercial real estate brokers in SE MA began to grow, along with a client list that included Cape Cod Hospital, NSTAR, Falmouth Hospital, Brooks Pharmacy, Plymouth Savings, BJs Wholesale Club, and many others. By the early 2000s, John saw a need to focus on highly personalized professional services and strong client collaborations and establishd TRA under this model in 2004.

Teresa A. Martin joined TRA in 2008. Prior to joining the firm, Teresa held CEO and COO level positions with a variety of technology and innovation sector companies and has been working with the launch and growth of companies since the mid-1980s. At TRA she combines her understanding of the needs of businesses with an understanding of the regional market which she developed over four years of working with regional economic development issues as CEO of the Cape Cod Technology Council, Inc.
